S Tel | A better way to communicate
Expertise in mobile telephony operations has been one of the hallmarks of SIVA Group. Having entered the sector in its nascent state, the Group has proven itself to be one of the most enduring and innovative market participants.
After the divestment of Aircel, SIVA Group re-entered the telecom space through S Tel, focusing on the least-penetrated telecom circles that offer high growth potential. With that endeavor, S Tel obtained Unified Access Services Licenses [UASL] to operate in six Category C telecom circles in India viz., Assam, Bihar [including Jharkhand], Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha and the North East. The company had also obtained a “Category A” pan-India ISP license.
By 2010, S Tel had rolled out services in five circles viz., Assam, Bihar [including Jharkhand], Himachal Pradesh, Odisha and the North East. However, as everyone is aware, the Supreme Court of India cancelled all the licences based on the flawed policy of ‘First Come First Serve’ basis and S Tel had to bear the brunt of this cancellation. However, though the 2G services per the Court order has been discontinued, S Tel, one of the only new operators, has through a valid auction process been allotted 3G Spectrum. S Tel will continue to endeavour and derive value through this medium for the stakeholders and its customers.
